HPU Women Start Season Eighth In Division II Rankings

TEMPE, Ariz. – The Hawai'i Pacific University women's tennis team begin the 2020 campaign with a No. 8 ranking in the Preseason Oracle/ITA Division II Women's Tennis Rankings administered by Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
 
The PacWest Conference Champion Sharks are coming off a 15-6 season in 2019 where they advanced to the NCAA Division II Quarterfinals.
 
Defending national champion Barry (Fla.) has the top position in the poll, receiving seven of the eight first place votes. National runner-up Lynn (Fla.) is second with the other first place vote. National semifinalists Columbus State and Indianapolis are third and fourth respectively.
 
Nova Southeastern, Saint Leo and West Florida are five through seven, with HPU eight ahead of Central Oklahoma and North Georgia.
 
In addition to the Sharks, the PacWest has Azusa Pacific at 14, Academy of Art 19 and Fresno Pacific receiving votes.
 
The Sharks open the 2020 season on Friday morning against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, the No. 2 team in Division III.
