SAN DIEGO – Hawai'i Pacific University women's golf team placed 10th at the Point Loma Spring Invitational at the Rancho Bernardo Inn Golf Course on Tuesday that opened the 2020 Spring Season.
 
The Sharks posted a team score of 368 in the final round for a tournament total of 726 to remain 10th in the field, 16 strokes better than Marymount California at 742 in 11th.
 
The best round of the day for the Sharks was from junior Marli Koba of Seattle/Garfield who posted an 85 on the par 72, 5,899 yard Rancho Bernardo course. She finished tied for 30th with a 166. Sophomore Kaley Saludares of Hilo, Hawai'i/Waiakea carded an 86, and finished one-stroke better than Koba for the tournament at 165, good for a 26th place tie.
 
Freshman Avery Paige Weil of Colorado Springs, Colo./Maclaren added a second 98 in the final round for a 196 finish, while junior Kassidy Dunn of Berlin, Pa./Berlin Borthersvalley posted a 99 to finish at 199.
 
Sonoma State's Samantha Cabunag fired a 3-over 75 on Tuesday to win the individual title with a 2-over 146. She was one stroke better than teammate Cristina Picariello who turned in the only sub-par score in the second with a 1-under 71 to finish at 3-over 147. Biola's Jules Loibl was third at 6-over 150.
 
Sonoma State won the team title by 10 strokes with a 307 in the second round for a 611 total. Biola was second with a 621 and Cal State LA was third with a 628.
 
The Sharks will be in action again on March 11 when they host Doane (Neb.) in a dual meet at Pearl Country Club.
