TEMPE, Ariz. – The Hawai'i Pacific University women's and men's tennis teams were recognized for their academic prowess on Tuesday with the 2020 ITA All-Academic Team award.
Six HPU women and four men were also named as 2020 ITA Scholar-Athletes.
The tennis teams led the entire HPU Athletic Department for the 2019-20 academic year. The women's team recorded a 3.609 cumulative grade point average for the year, edging out the Sharks men at 3.542 for the year.
The HPU women are a part of the 129 Division II women's teams to win the award. The Sharks men are one of the 95 Division II men's teams to be recognized.
The HPU women tallied six members of the ITA Scholar-Athlete Team.
Nicole Ballach,
Elodie Busson,
Monica Greene,
Sarah Ikioka,
Mihoki Miyahara and
Jayme Waites were among the 762 Division II student-athletes honored in 2019-20.
The HPU men featured four ITA Scholar-Athletes.
Ondrej Ctverak,
Guilherme De Medeiros,
Benjamin Loccisano and
Matej Panik joined the group of Division II men that totaled 593.
Student-athletes must have a grade point average of at least 3.5 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year and be on the institutional eligibility form to be named to an ITA Scholar-Athlete.
To be included as an ITA All-Academic Team, programs must have a team GPA of 3.2 (on a 4.00 scale), with all student-athletes included on the institutional eligibility form and all varsity letter winners factored into the cumulative GPA for the current academic year.
