WAIMEA, Hawai'i – Hawai'i Pacific University freshman
Lily Landt shot a 4-over-par 76 to lead the Sharks in the first round of the 2021 Dennis Rose Women's Intercollegiate at the Hapuna Golf Course.
Landt, of Reno, Nev./Wooster, covered the par 72, 6,029-yard Hapuna women's loop, with three birdies, two bogeys and two double bogeys in recording the 76, four strokes off the lead as the Sharks posted a 323 to tie for 10th in the field with Simon Fraser, one stroke better than Saint Martin's in 12th. Northwest Nazarene is ninth at 322.
Freshman
Kellie Yamane of Aiea, Hawai'i/Iolani careded a 5-over 77 to tie for 22nd after one round. Freshmen
Kaylee Akagi of Mililani, Hawai'i/Punahou and
Clarissa Burhan of Las Vegas, Nev./Clark each chalked up an 85, while sophomore
Megan Marty of Scottsdale, Ariz./Desert Mountain added an 86.
The Sharks also played three individuals led by freshman
Makenna Reinhardt of Le Sueur, Minn./Le Sueur-Henderson shot an 83, freshman
Kaila Bonawitz of Vancouver, Wash./Mountain View added an 88, and sophomore
Kirsten Lindner of Glendora, Calif./Glendora turned in a 92.
Biola leads the team event with a 293, four strokes in front of Grand Valley State at 297 in second and Texas-Tyler third at 304.
There is a four-way tie for the individual lead after the first of three rounds. Biola's Melanie Reyes, Rachel Shaw and Brady Turnquist, are knotted with Grand Valley's Julia Sanchez at even-par 72. One stroke better than two others at 1-over 73.
The second round of the tournament is set for Tuesday at Hapuna, with tee times beginning at 9:24 a.m. The final round is scheduled for Wednesday.
