SANTA ROSA, Calif. – The Hawai'i Pacific University women are in 13th place after the opening round of the Sonoma State Fall Invitational at the Valley of the Moon Golf Club.
The Sharks put up a 335 as a team for the first round, 11 strokes better than Hawai'i Hilo in 14th at 346 and two strokes behind Saint Martin's in 12th at 333.
The Sharks were led in opening round action by freshman
Lily Landt of Reno, Nev./Wooster who toured the par 72, 6,032-yard Valley of the Moon women's layout in 7-over-par 79, and sits just outside the top 20 in a tie for 22nd. Freshman
Clarissa Burhan of Las Vegas, Nev./Clark carded an 83, while sophomore
Megan Marty of Scottsdale, Ariz./Desert Mountain recorded an 85, and freshmen
Kaylee Akagi of Mililani, Hawai'i/Punahou and
Kellie Yamane of Aiea, Hawai'i/Iolani each turned in an 88.
Cal State San Marcos leads the team event with a first round 306, two strokes better than Menlo at 308 in second and four ahead of host Sonoma State at 310 in third.
Academy of Art's Anahi Servin leads the individuals after firing a 1-under 71, two strokes ahead of Dominican's Crystal Yi at 1-over 73. Sonoma State's Lexi Nielsen and Menlo's Dasa Urbankova are tied for third three back at 2-over 74.
The final round of the tournament is scheduled for Tuesday at Valley of the Moon, with a shotgun start at 5:30 a.m. HST (8:30 a.m. PDT).
