SANTA ROSA, Calif. – The Hawai'i Pacific University women moved up two spots to finish 11th overall at the Sonoma State Fall Invitational at the Valley of the Moon Golf Club.
The Sharks posted a final round 337 for a two-round total of 672 to finish 11th, a stroke ahead of Chico State in 12th at 673, six in front of Saint Martin's at 678 in 13th and 18 ahead of Hawai'i Hilo at 690 in 14th. Cal State East Bay was 10th at 646.
Once again the Sharks were paced by freshman
Lily Landt of Reno, Nev./Wooster who fired an 8-over-par 80 on the par 72, 6,032-yard loop to finish in the top 20, tied for 19th at 159. Sophomore
Megan Marty of Scottsdale, Ariz./Desert Mountain carded her second 85 of the tournament to move up to 170. Freshman
Clarissa Burhan of Las Vegas, Nev./Clark turned in an 88 for a 171, while freshman
Kellie Yamane of Aiea, Hawai'i/Iolani had the second-best round of the day for HPU with an 84 to total 172. Freshmen
Kaylee Akagi of Mililani, Hawai'i/Punahou added a 95 to round out the team at 183.
Host Sonoma State posted a second straight 310 in the final round to win the tournament at 620, one stroke in front of Cal State San Marcos at 621 after a 315 in the second round. Menlo recorded a 631 for third, while Academy of Art and Western Washington tied for fourth at 633.
Academy of Art's Anahi Servin went wire-to-wire to with the tournament a 3-over 147 after a 4-over 76 in the final round. Menlo's Dasa Urbankova was two back in second at 5-over 149, while Sonoma State's Lauren Garcia and Lexi Nielsen joined Holy Names' Regina Parra in a third place tie at 9-over 153.
The Sharks are off until the end of the month when they play at the Dennis Rose Intercollegiate at the Hapuna Golf Course in Waimea on the Big Island Oct. 25-27.
