AIEA, Hawai'i – Hawai'i Pacific University sits second in both men's and women's play after the first day of the 2021 Pearl Collegiate Classic presented by the Bernice Pauahi Bishop Estate at the Pearl Country Club.
The HPU men are tied for second with Hawai'i Hilo at 310, trailing Division I Hawai'i who posted a 294. The UH second team is fourth at 314. The HPU women chalked up a 327, trailing Hawai'i at 312 and ahead of Hawai'i Hilo at 360.
The Rainbow Warriors Kotaro Murata fired a 5-under-par 67 for the individual lead. HPU sophomore Keli'i Kamelamela-Dudoit of Ho'olehua, Hawai'i/Kamehameha-Kapalama, toured the par 72, 6,787 yard course in even par 72, tied for second with the Bows Justin Ngan.
HPU junior
Ray Kim of Aiea, Hawai'i/Moanalua is in the top 10 after carding a 6-over 78, while sophomore
Hasee Nazir of Orange, Calif./Orange Lutheran is tied for 11th with a 7-over 79. Junior
Ryan Torres of San Jose, Calif./Evergreen Valley and true freshman
Noah Daher of Cottonwood, Ariz./Mingus Union wrapped up the team scoring by each recording an 81.
Playing as individuals, true freshman
Isaac Kinsman of Vancouver, Wash./Prairie fired a 7-over 79, and senior
Tom Purcell of Liverpool, England/St. Mary's added an 81.
On the women's side, the Rainbow Wahine's Zoey Akagi-Bustin and Monica Johnson are tied for the individual title at 2-over 74 on the women's par 72, 5,965 yard loop.
HPU has the next three positions, with junior
Cameron Kaneshiro of Kaneohe, Hawai'i/Hawai'i Baptist Academy is third with a 7-over 79, senior
Marli Koba of Seattle, Wash./Garfield fourth at 9-over 81 and freshman
Megan Marty of Scottsdale, Ariz./Desert Mountain fifth at 10-over 82. Freshman
Kirsten Lindner of Glendora, Calif./Glendora rounded is eighth, rounding out the Sharks scoring with an 85.
The Pearl Collegiate Classic presented by the Bernice Pauahi Bishop Estate concludes with a single 18-hole round tomorrow starting at 12:34 at Pearl Country Club.
