KA'ANAPALI, Maui, Hawai'i – The Hawai'i Pacific University women played one of their best rounds of the season, moving to fourth after two rounds of the University of Hawai'i's Anuenue Spring Break Classic at the Royal Ka'anapali Golf Course Tuesday.
The Sharks posted a 346 team score in the second round, 19 strokes better than Hawai'i Hilo for the day and passed the Vulcans to climb to fourth at 701, seven strokes better than UHH at 708. UC Davis tallied a collective 2-under-par 286 on Tuesday to lead the tournament at 4-over 580. Host Hawai'i is second at 596 after a 3-over 291 and Portland State is third at 602.
HPU senior
Marli Koba of Seattle, Wash./Garfield leads the Division II golfers in the field, remaining tied at 17th. The senior looped the par 72, 6,020-yard layout with her second consecutive 12-over 84 for a 36-hole total of 168. Junior teammate
Cameron Kaneshiro of Kaneohe, Hawai'i/Hawai'i Baptist Academy carded an 86 to slip to a tie for 21st at 171. Freshman
Kirsten Lindner of Glendora, Calif./Glendora improved to an 85 in the round to sit at 176, while freshman
Megan Marty of Scottsdale, Ariz./Desert Mountain improved with a 91 for a 186.
It's red numbers atop the individual leaderboard as UC Davis teammates Madison Wood and Jackie Lucena are tied after two rounds at 3-under 141. Lucena fired a 3-under 69 on Tuesday, while Wood shot a 2-under 70. The big move came by Portland State's Franca Polla who fired a 4-under 68 to tie for third at 1-under 143. UH Manoa's Zoey Akagi-Bustin carded a 3-under 69 to tie Polla at 1-under 143.
The final round of the tournament is set for Wednesday morning at the Royal Ka'anapali. The Sharks are scheduled to tee off starting at 8:20 a.m. in the final round, playing with Portland State.
