NAPA, Calif. – The Hawai'i Pacific University men and women are fourth after the opening round of the Academy of Art Invitational on Monday at the Silverado Resort North Course.
 
The HPU men posted a 320 first round score for fourth, six strokes behind host Academy of Art in third at 314. Cal State East Bay leads the event at 299, with Sonoma State second at 306.
 
The Sharks women are fourth after an opening round 358. Sonoma State leads with a 323, with ART U second at 335 and Holy Names third at 337.
 
HPU freshman Keita Okada of Tokyo, Japan/Bradenton, Fla. IMG Academy and junior Ryan Torres of San Jose, Calif./Evergreen Valley, are tied for eighth after firing 5-over-par 77s on the par 72, 6,793-yard men's layout on the North Course. Sophomore Keli'i Kamelamela-Dudoit of Ho'olehua, Hawai'i/Kamehameha-Kapalama turned in a 10-over 82 to sit 18th, while senior Tom Purcell of Liverpool, England/St. Mary's is tied for 19th at 84. Junior Ray Kim of Aiea, Hawai'i/Moanalua is 21st with an 85.
 
Cal State East Bay's Won Jun Lee leads the individual competition after firing a 1-under 71 on Monday. Sonoma State's Thomas Jenkins is two back at 1-over 73 and Dominican's Matt Fry is third at 2-over 74.
 
Senior Marli Koba of Seattle, Wash./Garfield is leading the way for the HPU women. Koba toured the par 72, 5,208-yard women's loop with an 84 to tie for ninth, nine strokes off the lead. Junior Cameron Kaneshiro of Kaneohe, Hawai'i/Hawai'i Baptist Academy is tied for 11th at 85, 10 strokes off the lead. Freshman Megan Marty of Scottsdale, Ariz./Desert Mountain is tied for 14th at 87, and freshman Kirsten Lindner of Glendora, Calif./Glendora is 21st at 102.
 
Sonoma State's Isley Grguric leads the women's individuals at 3-over 75. The ART U duo of Iveta Posledni and Anahi Servin are tied for second a 8-over 80.
 
The final round of the tournament is scheduled for Tuesday. The HPU men's tee times begin at 5:20 a.m. HST (8:20 PDT), with the women's tee times at 6:30 a.m. HST (9:30 PDT). The second round will be played on Silverado's South Course.
