NAPA, Calif. – The Hawai'i Pacific University men
Ryan Torres and
Keita Okada tied for fourth individually as HPU's men and women placed fourth at the Academy of Art Invitational on Tuesday at the Silverado Resort.
Torres, a junior from nearby San Jose, Calif./Evergreen Valley, and Okada, a freshman from Tokyo, Japan/Bradenton, Fla. IMG Academy, both fired a 3-over-par 75 on the par 72, 6,612 Silverado South Course in the final round to tie at 8-over 152 with Monday leader Won Jun Lee of Cal State East Bay who posted an 81 for his 152.
Sophomore Keli'i Kamelamela-Dudoit of Ho'olehua, Hawai'i/Kamehameha-Kapalama added a second straight 82 for a 164, senior
Tom Purcell of Liverpool, England/St. Mary's added an 83 for a 167 and junior
Ray Kim of Aiea, Hawai'i/Moanalua another 85 for 170 to round out the HPU scoring.
CSU East Bay's Ryan Hong fired a 2-under 70 to post a 147, with Sonoma State's Devin Gregg who shot an even-par 72 for a 147 and Sonoma's Thomas Jenkins who carded a 2-over 74 for his 147. Hong won the scorecard playoff for individual honors with Jenkins and Gregg second.
Sonoma State won the men's competition after a 296 on Tuesday for a 605 total, three strokes better than Cal State East Bay at 605. Academy of Art was third at 619, followed by the Sharks at 635.
On the women's side, HPU struggled on the fast greens and windy conditions to post a 374 round with a 732 total for fourth. Sonoma State won the team event with a 654, with host Academy of Art second at 684, one stroke better than Holy Names at 685.
Senior
Marli Koba of Seattle, Wash./Garfield carded an 87 on the par 72, 5,806 yard the Silverado South Course women's layout. Koba finished 11th at 171, two strokes better than junior
Cameron Kaneshiro of Kaneohe, Hawai'i/Hawai'i Baptist Academy in 12th after an 88 for a 173 total. Freshman
Megan Marty of Scottsdale, Ariz./Desert Mountain shot a 97 on Tuesday to finish at 184, while freshman
Kirsten Lindner of Glendora, Calif./Glendora added a second 102 to finish with a 204.
ART U's Anahi Servin won the individual honors carding a second 80 for a 160 total. Sonoma State's Jasmine Monas and Samantha Cabunag tied for second at 163. Monas had the best round of the day for the women with a 79, while Cabunag added an 81.
The HPU men are in action again this weekend when they visit the Big Island to take part in The Hawai'i Challenge at Waikoloa on Saturday and Sunday. The HPU women will play again in the Hawai'i Triangular along with the HPU men on April 10-11 at Pearl Country Club.
