LIVERMORE, Calif. – The Hawai'i Pacific University women are eighth and the men 12th after the first round of the Northwest Nazarene Nighthawk Invitational played this spring at the Poppy Ridge Golf Course.
The HPU women posted a 355 total for the opening round, three shots behind St. Martin's in seventh at 352. The Shark men hung a 327 for 12th, one stroke ahead of Cameron in 13th at 328 and five strokes behind Montana State-Billings in 11th at 322. Host Northwest Nazarene is 10th after a 321 in the first round.
The women are paced by junior
Cameron Kaneshiro of Kaneohe, Hawai'i/Hawai'i Baptist Academy who is tied for eighth. She looped the women's par 72, 5,823 yard course at 8-over-par 80. Freshman
Kirsten Lindner of Glendora, Calif./Glendora posted an 85, with senior
Marli Koba of Seattle, Wash./Garfield carding an 89. Freshman
Megan Marty of Scottsdale, Ariz./Desert Mountain added a 101 to round out the scoring.
On the men's side, freshman
Keita Okada of XXXXXX played to a 7-over 79 on the par 72, 6,958 yard men's layout to lead HPU. Sophomore Keli'i Kamelamela-Dudoit of Ho'olehua, Hawai'i/Kamehameha-Kapalama, recorded an 81, while sophomore
Hasee Nazir of Orange, Calif./Orange Lutheran turned in an 83 and junior
Ryan Torres of San Jose, Calif./Evergreen Valley added an 84. Junior
Ray Kim of Aiea, Hawai'i/Moanalua rounded out the men's scores with an 87.
Sonoma State is at the top in both women's and men's team play, but the Seawolves are joined by three others on the men's side. SSU posted a 309 in women's play, four shots better than Academy of Art at 313 in second and Holy Names back in third at 335. Lexi Nielsen of Sonoma fired a 1-over 73 to lead teammate Brenna Ozel by two strokes after a 3-over 75.
On the men's side Sonoma, Cal State East Bay, St. Martin's and Western Washington all tallied a 307 for a four-way tie at the top. Individually, WWU's Aidan Thain fired an even-par 72 for a one-stroke lead over Dominican's Matt Fry at 1-over 73, and two strokes ahead of a tie at third between St. Martin's Maxwell Turnquist and East Bay's Ryan Hong at 2-over 74. The rest of the top 10 is within four-strokes.
The final round of the tournament is slated for Tuesday at Poppy Ridge.
