WAIKOLOA, Hawai'i – The Hawai'i Pacific University women are seventh after the opening day of the 2021 PacWest Conference Golf Championships at the Waikoloa Beach Golf Course on the Big Island.
The Sharks tallied a 341 as a team for seventh behind host Hawai'i Hilo in sixth at 320.
Senior
Marli Koba of Seattle, Wash./Garfield led the way for the Sharks, touring the par 70, 5,915 women's layout at the Beach Course in 7-over-par 77 for a tie for 12th after the first round.
Junior
Cameron Kaneshiro of Kaneohe, Hawai'i/Hawai'i Baptist Academy carded an 82, while freshman
Kirsten Lindner of Glendora, Calif./Glendora turned in a 90 and freshman
Megan Marty of Scottsdale, Ariz./Desert Mountain added a 92.
Dominican leads the team competition at 297 with a 10-stroke lead over second place Point Loma at 307, with Biola third at 313.
Holy Names' Aubrey Corpuz fired a 1-under 69 to lead the women's individual play. Domincian's Lauren Parayno is two strokes back at 1-over 71with Academy of Art's Anahi Servin and Dominican's Claire Shubin third at 2-over 72.
The second round is Tuesday starting at 7:30 a.m. at the Waikoloa Beach Course. The championship wraps up on Wednesday.
