TEMPE, Ariz. – The Hawai'i Pacific University women's tennis team dropped a four positions to No. 11 in the latest Oracle/ITA Division II Women's Tennis Rankings administered by Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
The Sharks (5-2) slipped after losing last week 4-0 at Azusa Pacific, while picking up wins against Biola and Point Loma.
Indianapolis (15-0) remains the top team with seven first place votes, while Barry (Fla.) (8-0) is number two with one first place vote. Nova Southeastern (Fla.) (8-1) is third with Central Oklahoma (15-1) is fourth and West Alabama (14-2) fifth.
Azusa Pacific (12-2) jumped to sixth in this ranking, with West Florida (13-4) seventh, Saint Leo (Fla.) (7-2) eighth, Lynn (Fla.) (5-3) ninth and Columbus State (Ga.) (13-3) tenth. HPU is next at No. 11.
The Sharks are on the mainland for the PacWest Conference Championships in Surprise, Ariz., at the Surprise Tennis and Racquet Complex. HPU is seeded third and will play in the quarterfinals Thursday at 6 a.m. HST (9 a.m. MST) against the winner of Wednesday's first round match between Fresno Pacific and Dominican. The semifinals are on Friday at 6 a.m. HST (9 a.m. MST).
