Noel Saunders and Cieana Curran Named All-PacWest Conference

Sharks Saunders and Curran Selected To All-PacWest Team

IRVINE, Calif. – Hawai'i Pacific University's Noel Saunders and Cieana Curran were selected to the 2021 All-PacWest Conference Softball Team when the conference announced on Tuesday by the conference office.
 
Saunders was named to the All-PacWest Second Team and Curran to the All-PacWest Third Team by a vote of the conference head coaches.
 
Saunders, a sophomore outfielder from Pearl City, Hawai'i/Pearl City, led the Sharks with a .361 batting average to rank 17th. She chalked up four doubles and six RBI  with a .417 slugging percentage and an on base percentage of .434. Saunders also posted a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage from her left field position.
 
Curran, a senior from Ewa Beach, Hawai'i/Campbell, collected her third All-PacWest honor. She was third on the team with a .339 batting average, with one triple and one home run while starting all 24 games in centerfield. Curran led HPU with 11 stolen bases (in 12 attempts), ranking fifth in the PacWest and 188th nationally. She was second in the PacWest and 100th nationally in stolen bases per game (.46), and ranked sixth in the conference and 112th in Division II with a .481 on-base percentage. With a keen eye at the plate, Curran led the PacWest and was 20th nationally, averaging 0.71 walks per game.
 
The Sharks finished 8-16 on the year, both overall and in PacWest Hawai'i play.
 
The conference also named the special award winners. Concordia Irvine had the PacWest Player of the Year in second base McKinsey Thorpe, the PacWest Pitcher of the Year in Callie Nunes, and the PacWest Newcomer of the Year in pitcher Kelsea Sweeney. Academy of Art second base Haley Randall was voted Freshman of the Year and Chaminade second base Cheyne Obara was voted Defensive Player of the Year.
