INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Eleventh ranked Hawai'i Pacific University is the No. 2 seed in the Women's NCAA Division II West Region as the regional bracket for the 2021 NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Championships were announced on Tuesday by the NCAA Division II Tennis Committee.
Because of the Covid Pandemic, a total of 36 teams were selected to play in the 2021 championships, with each of the eight regions playing down to a regional champion that will head to the national championships May 19-21 in Surprise, Ariz.
The West Regional will also be played at the Surprise Tennis and Racquet Complex, a neutral site, this Friday and Saturday, May 7-8.
The Sharks (7-3) will face third seeded Concordia Irvine (14-4) in a regional semifinal on Friday at 6 a.m. HST (9 a.m.MST). The other semifinal has PacWest Champion and No. 1 seed Azusa Pacific (15-2) meeting fourth seed Biola (13-7) at the same time.
The semifinal winners meet in the regional championship match at 6 a.m. HST (9 a.m. MST) on Saturday.
The Sharks and Eagles met once this season, in the PacWest semifinals with HPU taking a 4-0 victory.
It's the 22nd consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament for the HPU women who have reached the semifinals in five of the last seven tournaments. Because of the pandemic, no tournament was played in 2020.
