AIEA, Hawai'i – Hawai'i Pacific University slipped a bit on Monday and finished third as the top three teams were separated by two shots at the HPU Sharks Shootout at Pearl Country Club.
HPU posted a 302 team score for a 601 total, but the University of Hawai'i rallied for a 297 to win the event at 599. Hawai'i Hilo posted the best team round of the competition with a 291 to finish at 600 a stroke behind the Warriors and a stroke ahead of the Sharks. The HPU White team was fourth with a 309 on the day and 619, while Chaminade added a 312 to finish fifth at 654. The Hawai'i second unit, the Nightwalkers, lost a score from Sunday could not post a team score.
In the individual race, UH Hilo's Keith Ing fired the best round of the tournament with a 4-under-par 68 on his way to a 3-under 141 to beat HPU's
Keita Okada by four strokes. UHH individual player Andrew Otani finished third with a 1-over 73 for a 2-over 146 total, with Hawai'i's Matt Lloyd placing fourth with an even-par 72 and a 4-over 148 total.
Okada, the sophomore from Tokyo, Japan/Bradenton, Fla. IMG Academy, toured the par 72, 6,787 yard Pearl course on Monday in 1-over 73 to finish the tournament at 1-over 145. HPU White team freshman
Luke Shamblin of Matthews, N.C./Metrolina Christian fired a 3-over 75 to finish fifth at 6-over 150, while junior Keli'i Kamelamela-Dudoit of Ho'olehua, Hawai'i/Kamehameha-Kapalama also carded a 3-over 75 to place sixth at 7-over 151. Freshman
Tomoro Shimabukuro of Okinawa, Japan/Bradenton, Fla. IMG Academy tied for 10th with a 3-over 75 to finish at 9-over 153.
Senior
Ray Kim of Aiea, Hawai'i/Moanalua added a 79 for a 160 tournament total to round out the Sharks team scoring. Junior
Hasee Nazir of Orange, Calif./Orange Lutheran signed an incorrect scorecard and did not figure in the scoring.

Ryan Torres of San Jose, Calif./Evergreen Valley shot a 79 for a 154, sophomore Nate Gani of Lanai City, Hawai'i/Lanai added a 5-under 77 for a 159, freshman
Grant Garrison of Lake Tapps, Wash./Sumner put up a 78 for a 160 and sophomore
Noah Daher of Cottonwood, Ariz./Mingus Union added an 83 for a 161.
The Sharks return to competition on Sept. 24 when they visit Dupont, Wash., for the Saint Martin's Invitational at The Home Course.
