AIEA, Hawai'i – Hawai'i Pacific University posted a first round team score of 327 to sit in second place at the HPU Sharks Shootout, the season's first tournament, at Pearl Country Club.
The Sharks 327 was behind the strong 296 by the Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine. The Sharks are 10 strokes ahead of UH Hilo at 337. The Sharks White team is fourth with a 344.
HPU was led by the play of freshman
Lily Landt of Reno, Nev./Wooster who turned the par 72, 6,104 yard women's Pearl layout in 4-over-par 76 to tie for third after the opening round. Freshman
Kaylee Akagi of Mililani, Hawai'i/Punahou is in a four-way tie for sixth at 9-over 81.
The Sharks got an 83 from freshman
Kellie Yamane of Aiea, Hawai'i/Iolani, an 87 from sophomore
Megan Marty of Scottsdale, Ariz./Desert Mountain and an 89 from freshman
Makenna Reinhardt of Le Sueur, Minn./Le Sueur-Henderson.
Freshman
Clarissa Burhan of Las Vegas, Nev./Clark, led the Sharks White team and is tied for 10th after an opening round 82. Senior
Cameron Kaneshiro of Kaneohe, Hawai'i/Hawai'i Baptist Academy chalked up an 85, with freshman
Kaila Bonawitz of Vancouver, Wash./Mountain View carding an 88 and sophomore
Kirsten Lindner of Glendora, Calif./Glendora an 89.
UH's Hana Mirnik fired a 1-under 71 for the individual lead, with teammate Momo Sugiyama two back at 1-over 73. The Rainbow Wahine's Focus Jonglikit and Ting-Yu Liu joined HPU's Landt at 4-over 76.
The second round of the shootout is set for Monday, with the first tee time at 9:42 at Pearl Country Club.
