DuPONT, Wash. – Hawai'i Pacific University sophomore Keita Okada is tied for third individually and has HPU in a tie for sixth as a team after the first day of play at the Saint Martin's Invitational at The Home Course.
 
Okada, the sophomore from Tokyo, Japan/Bradenton, Fla. IMG Academy,  fired rounds of 2-under-par 70 and 3-under 69 in the opening two rounds of the tournament at the par 72, 6,994 yard Home Course. He is in a third place tie at 5-under 139, two strokes off the lead of Grays Harbor CC's Ryan Feyrer who posted a 7-under 137 with rounds of 4-under 68 and 3-under 69. Dominican (Calif.) golfer Christian Schrodt shot a 5-under 67 in the second round to sit in second at 6-under 138.
 
The defending PacWest Champion Okada posted five birdies and two bogeys in the second round after five birdies and three bogeys in the first round of the day.
 
Junior Keli'i Kamelamela-Dudoit of Ho'olehua, Hawai'i/Kamehameha-Kapalama is in the top 20 after the opening rounds, tied for 19th at 3-over 147. Dudoit carded an even-par 72 in the second round to go with his 3-over 75 in the first.
 
The duo helped the Sharks to a 590 first day score, with a 296 first round and a 294 in the second. HPU is tied with Montana State Billings and Hawai'i Hilo, and is two strokes behind Dominican in fifth at 588. Western Washington leads the event at 4-under 572, with Simon Fraser second, three back at 1-under 575. Lewis & Clark State (Idaho) third at 585 with Cal State San Bernadino is fourth in the 12 team field at 586.
 
Senior Ryan Torres of San Jose, Calif./Evergreen Valley and freshman Luke Shamblin of Matthews, N.C./Metrolina Christian tallied 6-over 152 each, with Torres going 77-75 and Shambin 74-78. Freshman Tomoro Shimabukuro of Okinawa, Japan/Bradenton, Fla. IMG Academy rounded out the scoring with an opening day 79-81 – 160.
 
The invitational wraps up on Saturday morning with a single 18-hole round starting at 5 a.m. HST (8 a.m. PDT) at The Home Course.
