GOODYEAR, Ariz. – Hawai'i Pacific University posted a team score of 325 in first round play at the RJGA Shootout at Estrella on Monday at The Golf Club of Estrella.
The Sharks 325 is 17th in the 19 team field in the tournament that features nearly all the top NCAA Division II teams west of the Rockies. HPU is a stroke better than Fort Lewis (Colo.) at 326 in 18th and seven in front of Montana State Billings in 19th at 332. HPU is one stroke behind a 15th place tie between Colorado State-Pueblo and Metro State Denver at 324, and 10 strokes out of the top 10.
Freshman
Lily Landt of Reno, Nev./Wooster leads the Sharks after shooting a 6-over-par 78 on the par 72, 6,087-yard Estrella collegiate women's loop. Freshman
Kellie Yamane of Aiea, Hawai'i/Iolani and freshman
Clarissa Burhan of Las Vegas, Nev./Clark both carded an 81, while freshman
Kaylee Akagi of Mililani, Hawai'i/Punahou added an 85. Sophomore
Megan Marty of Scottsdale, Ariz./Desert Mountain added an 86 to complete the team.
Cal State East Bay leads the team event at the midpoint, posting a 300 in the first round, one stroke better than Sonoma State at 301 and two ahead of Colorado Christian in third at 302.
Individually, East Bay's Drishti Karumbaya fired a 4-under 68 for a two stroke lead over Colorado Christian's Faith Kilgore at 2-under 70. Sonoma's Amelia Gladys sits third at even-par 72, with five other tied for fourth at 1-over 73.
The tournament concludes with an 18-hole round on Tuesday, with a shotgun start at 4:45 a.m. HST (7:45 MST) at The Golf Club of Estrella.
