Sharks Slip at Western Washington Invitational

BLAINE, Wash. – Hawai'i Pacific University sophomore Keita Okada finished second while the team dropped to seventh on Tuesday in the final round of the 2021 Western Washington Invitational at the Loomis Trail Golf Course.
 
The Sharks posted a 318 as a team on Tuesday, falling from the lead to seventh with a total of 618, two stroke better than eighth place Saint Martin's at 620. Chico State won the event at 596 after a 290 on Tuesday, two strokes better than Montana State Billings at 598 in second. Hawai'i Hilo was part of a three-way tie for third at 599.
 
Okada from Tokyo, Japan/Bradenton, Fla. IMG Academy, shot a 2-over-par 74 on the par 72, 7,085-yard Loomis Trail loop, to finish at even-par 144 and wind up second. Okada fell from the lead on the next to the last hole when UH Hilo's Keith Ng birdied No. 2, his 17th, on his to finishing at 1-under 143. UH Hilo's Andrew Otani was third at 2-over 146 after a 2-under 70 in the final round.
 
The Sharks got a strong round from freshman Luke Shamblin of Matthews, N.C./Metrolina Christian who fired a 4-over 76 to for a 157 to finish second among HPU players. Junior Keli'i Kamelamela-Dudoit of Ho'olehua, Hawai'i/Kamehameha-Kapalama and freshman Tomoro Shimabukuro of Okinawa, Japan/Bradenton, Fla. IMG Academy finished at 160 as Dudoit posted an 84 and Shimabukuro an 87 after his first round 73. Senior Ryan Torres of San Jose, Calif./Evergreen Valley added an 84 for a 165.
 
The Sharks are off until they wrap up their fall campaign Oct. 25-27 at the Dennis Rose Intercollegiate at the Waikoloa Beach Golf Resort.
