Sharks Women Reign Victorious at ITA West Regional

GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. - The Hawaii Pacific University women's tennis team victoriously completed the ITA West Regional.

The Sharks claimed victories in both singles and doubles matches.

Seniors Elodie Busson and Mihoki Miyahara took on the number one seeded Liga/Kane of Azusa, where they came out on top 8-6.

In the singles bracket, Busson won her first match against number one seeded Eleonora Liga 7-6, 6-3 to earn a spot in the finals. In her semifinal matchup, Senior Marleen Tilgner cruised through in straight sets 6-2, 6-2, setting up a Sharks-only final.

The HPU final would not disappoint as the teammates battled, Busson had the edge after the first set, finishing 6-2, but Tilgner came right back with a 6-4 win in the second, sending the match into a tiebreaker. An eighteen-point tiebreaker is what it took for Busson to edge out her teammate, winning by a score of 10-8.

The winners move on to the ITA Cup that will run from Oct.12-16 at the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, Ga.
