Sharks Women Crush the Competition on Day One of ITA West Regional

GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. - The Hawaii Pacific University women's tennis team looks like they are in mid-season form as they launch their fall season at the ITA West Regional in Grand Junction, Colo.

The fourth seed duo of Marleen Tilgner and Abigail Wild did quick work against Point Loma, downing them 8-0. Biola showed a bit more fight, but not enough as the pair kept it swift in an 8-2 victory to advance to the quarterfinals.

The veteran combo of Elodie Busson and Mihoki Miyahara followed the same storyline as their teammates as they grabbed the first matchup in a clean 8-0 victory. Their second match proved challenging as they went the distance, with Wong/Lopez of Azusa getting the eventual 8-7 (3) win and grabbing themselves a quarterfinal spot..

Second seeded Marleen Tilgner matched up against Croteau of Biola in her first singles match of the day, defeating her 6-4, 7-6. Tilgner then faced her second Biola opponent, nearly sweeping her away in a 6-1, 6-0 dominant win. She advances to the round of 16 tomorrow morning.

Eight-seeded Miyahara took on a challenger from Concordia, dropping her with ease going 6-0, 6-2 in her first match. Faced off with Stienemeier from Metro State came with more resistance, but Miyahara cruised to a 6-2, 6-3 win and advanced to the round of 16 as well.

Busson came into the event as the fourth seed and proved it was for a reason. She crushed her opponents 6-0, 6-1, and 6-0, 6-2. She lost the least amount of games on the team.

Not everything can be perfect as Wild cruised to a first-round 6-0, 6-1 victory. However, she stumbled in her second match to third-seeded Emery from Biola 6-4, 6-3, and went out in the round of 32.
