Box Score SAN FRANCISCO - Hawai'i Pacific University (1-1-1) found the win column against San Francisco State University (0-2-1) at Cox Stadium in California. This marks head coach Connor Artigue's first win since taking command of the Sharks.
While the Gators tried their best to wear down the defenses of the Sharks by raining 17 shots at the net, of which only nine were actually on target, the Sharks' defense once again proved too great for their opponents. The stellar performance of freshman
Skylar Jacobsen ensured the shutout for the Sharks.
In contrast, the Sharks bided their time, taking only eight shots the entire game. Of those, three were on-target and only one was able to be saved for finding the back of the net.
First Blood was drawn late in the first half of play as junior
Sara Redfield connected to sophomore
Lauren Longworth, who put it past the Gators' senior goalkeeper Kylie Tone. This would cause Tone to end the day early, as freshman Kieren Crabtree quickly replaced her at the beginning of the next half.
The final nail in the coffin was driven in the 83rd minute of play, when senior
Saraya Burghardt's off-target shot ricocheted off the post and onto the foot of senior
Kalea Ajel, who put the only shot on goal that Crabtree faced in her net.
The Sharks will be back in action this Sunday, Sept. 14th, at 1:00 p.m. as they take on Division I Eastern Washington University in the Waipi'o Peninsula Soccer Stadium.
