ARCATA, Calif. – Hawai'i Pacific goalkeeper Skylar Jacobsen wasted no time making her presence felt in her first collegiate appearance, turning in a stellar performance that earned her the PacWest Defender of the Week award.

The freshman from Colorado recorded 10 saves in the Sharks' season-opening scoreless draw on the road against Cal Poly Humboldt on Sunday. Jacobsen faced a heavy workload with 27 total shots coming her way, standing tall between the posts to preserve the tie. Her efforts helped set the tone for the Sharks as they opened the year with resilience and composure on the defensive end.

The honor comes as no surprise after her preseason showing. Earlier in August, Jacobsen logged nine saves against Division I South Dakota State in an exhibition matchup, foreshadowing the steady hands she would bring into regular-season play.

HPU (0-0-1) will look to build on the defensive foundation Jacobsen helped establish when the Sharks return to action this week, continuing their non-conference slate before diving into PacWest competition.
