Sharks Bounce Back with Split Against Humboldt at Sand Island

HONOLULU — Hawai'i Pacific responded in a big way Friday afternoon at Sand Island, bouncing back from a tough opener to earn a 5-4 victory over Humboldt in the second game of the doubleheader.

Game One: Sharks Continue to Battle at the Plate

Hawai'i Pacific (2-6) collected seven hits in the opener, highlighted by a strong showing from Makayla Pagampao, who went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI.

In the fifth inning, the Sharks broke through offensively. Felicia Tanno and Saunette Oshiro came around to score on Pagampao's two-run double to left, putting HPU on the board and showcasing the team's ability to string together quality at-bats late. Danielle Cote added two hits in the contest, while Taryn Hirano and Tanno each contributed base knocks as well.

Despite the early deficit, the Sharks continued to compete and put pressure on the Lumberjacks' defense, finishing with seven hits and limiting mistakes in the field.

Game Two: HPU Rallies for 5-4 Win

The Sharks answered back in game two with timely hitting and a complete-game effort in the circle from Angelica Oseguera.

After Humboldt struck first in the third inning, HPU quickly responded. Miquela Leopoldo drove in a run to cut the deficit in half, and the Sharks seized momentum in the fourth. Pagampao delivered again with a two-run single to center, giving HPU its first lead of the day. Danielle Cote later brought in another run, capitalizing on defensive pressure to extend the advantage.

Humboldt trimmed the lead in the sixth and added another in the seventh, but Oseguera stayed composed in the circle, working through traffic and closing out the complete-game performance to secure her first win of the season.

Alexis Oshiro led the offense, going 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Pagampao finished 3-for-4 with three RBI, continuing her standout day at the plate. Jade Retuta added two hits and a stolen base, while the Sharks were aggressive on the basepaths throughout the contest.

With the split, Hawai'i Pacific showed resilience and offensive rhythm as the Sharks continue to build momentum early in the season.
