WAIPAHU, Hawai'i — Hawai'i Pacific University Baseball split Thursday's doubleheader with St. Martin's at Hans L'Orange Park, earning a 2–0 shutout victory in the afternoon before falling 3–1 in the nightcap.
Game One: HPU 2, St. Martin's 0
The Sharks broke through in the seventh inning of a scoreless duel when Tyler Arnold launched a two-run home run to left field, scoring Max Biehl and providing all the offense HPU would need.
The pitching staff delivered a dominant performance, limiting St. Martin's to just one hit across nine innings. Valor Castroll opened with two scoreless frames, and Jacob Vanek followed with four shutout innings while striking out four. Garrett Sinfield earned the win after working a clean seventh, and Noah Rhea closed the door with two scoreless innings to secure the save.
HPU collected six hits in the contest, including a double from Ziah Chang, and played error-free defense behind its pitching staff to improve to 2–1 on the season.
Game Two: St. Martin's 3, HPU 1
St. Martin's struck early in the second game, scoring three runs in the opening inning. The Sharks settled in on the mound behind Jayden Gabrillo, who delivered 4.1 scoreless innings of relief with five strikeouts to keep HPU within reach.
HPU broke through in the sixth inning when Noah Hata scored on a sacrifice fly from Owen Wessel, trimming the deficit to two. Tyler Arnold and Hata each recorded two hits in the game, with both players adding doubles as the Sharks threatened late.
Despite drawing seven walks and putting runners on base throughout the contest, HPU was unable to complete the comeback.
The split moves Hawai'i Pacific to 2–2 on the season as the Sharks continue their early home stretch at Hans L'Orange Park.
