HPU Drops Both in Doubleheader

LA MIRADA, Calif. — The Hawai'i Pacific softball team faced a tough day on the road Monday, dropping both games of a doubleheader against Biola at Freedom Field. Biola took the opener 10–0 before completing the sweep with a 7–0 win in the second game.

LA MIRADA, Calif. — The Hawai'i Pacific softball team faced a tough day on the road Monday, dropping both games of a doubleheader against Biola at Freedom Field. Biola took the opener 10–0 before completing the sweep with a 7–0 win in the second game.

Despite the results, the Sharks collected nine hits across the two games, but struggled to convert scoring opportunities against strong pitching performances by the Eagles.

The first game remained scoreless through three innings before Biola broke the contest open with a six-run fourth inning. A solo home run from Lillianna Garcia started the rally, followed by a two-run homer from Ariana Banos that pushed the Eagles ahead. Additional hits and aggressive baserunning allowed Biola to extend the lead to 6–0 by the end of the inning.
 

Hawai'i Pacific managed five hits in the game, with Miquela Leopoldo leading the offense with two hits. Danielle CoteBrianna Rodela, and Felicia Tanno each added a hit as well.

In the circle, Lily Pardini started for the Sharks before Naomi Cummings came on in relief. Biola's DJ Symons pitched a complete game, striking out six while holding HPU scoreless.
 

In the second game, the Sharks again kept things close early, but Biola struck first with two runs in the opening inningand added another in the second to build a 3–0 lead. 

The game remained within reach until the fifth inning when the Eagles delivered the decisive blow. Ariana Banos launched a three-run home run, highlighting a four-run inning that extended the lead to 7–0. 

Hawai'i Pacific recorded four hits in the game from Jade RetutaMiquela LeopoldoBrianna Rodela, and Felicia Tanno, but was unable to push a run across the plate.

Trinity Williams started in the circle for the Sharks and worked 4.2 innings before Angelica Oseguera finished the game in relief. Biola pitcher Kayla Bousquette threw a complete game, allowing four hits while striking out six.
 

With the losses, Hawai'i Pacific moved to 4–20 on the season, while Biola improved to 16–15.

The Sharks will look to bounce back as they continue their road swing later this week.
