Outside hitter Pomai Recca became the first Hawai’i Pacific University player in program history to be chosen the Sports Imports/AVCA Division II National Player of the Week by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.
 
The 5-9 senior from Waimanalo, Hawai’i/Kamehameha-Kapalama, was announced as the weekly winner on Tuesday morning. She was honored as the PacWest Co-Player of the Week on Monday.
 
Recca collected 86 kills (a 5.06 kills/set average) and hit .351 last week. She also posted 11 blocks (0.65 average) with three aces and 73 digs (a 4.29 average). She double-doubled in kills and digs in all four matches as she led the Sharks to a 3-1 record in four PacWest road games.
 
Recca collected a career-high 31 kills with 20 digs and hit .411 at Notre Dame de Namur. She hit .433 with 14 kills and two blocks at Holy Names in a three-set match and tallied 22 kills with four blocks in a loss at Dominican.
 
Recca ranks third in the PacWest in kills with 4.29 per set and her 31 kills at NDNU is tied for the most in a match this season in the conference.
 
She is the second PacWest player to win the Sports Imports/AVCA Division II National Player of the Week this season. Dixie State’s Delayne Daniel won also honored on Sept. 20.
