Women’s Volleyball Tops Grand Canyon

Phoenix, AZ (10/12/10) – On the campus of Grand Canyon University, the HPU women's volleyball team defeated the Antelopes, 3-1 (25-23, 25-21, 24-26, 25-16). HPU improves to 11-4 overall and 5-3 in the PacWest, while GCU drops to 9-12 overall and 5-5 in conference.

Kelly Balanay posted a match-high 18 kills for the Sea Warriors with Miriam Flemming adding 17 kills. Kyra Pelayo led HPU with 33 digs.

Kaitlynn Ausmus and Erica Ehlo both posted 11 kills to lead GCU.

HPU grabbed an early lead in game one before earning the win, then led by as many as six points in game two before winning on a Natasha Bell kill. Bell recorded seven kills and 13 digs to go along with four aces.

Grand Canyon responded by edging the Sea Warriors in game three, but was outplayed in game four as HPU won to close its road trip at 3-2.

Sanoe Recca posted nine kills and Pihana Kea added 60 assists and 14 digs.

HPU next plays Thursday, October 21, versus Chaminade. Start time at Saint Andrew's Priory is set for 7:00 p.m.
