Honolulu, HI (October 22, 2011) – Hawai'i Pacific battled, but lost in straight sets to Grand Canyon University on Saturday in Phoenix. Despite being close in every set, Hawai'i Pacific lost 24-26, 23-25, 21-25.
The first set was back and forth; with HPU leading 24-23. GCU then got three consecutive kills to end it. HPU fell behind in the second set 6-2, the 'Lopes maintained control until HPU tied it late at 19-19. Three late errors proved to be HPU's undoing. The 'Lopes ran out to a big advantage in third set, leading 11-3 and HPU wouldn't recover.
Sanoe Recca had a team best 11 kills, she also had 12 digs.
Kyra Pelayo had 23 digs to lead HPU, while
Natasha Bell had 16. Pihana Kea had 23 assists.
HPU continues its road trip on Monday and Tuesday against Dixie State, first serve is set for 7:00 PM MST.
