St. George, UT (October 25, 2011) - For the second time in as many nights, Hawai'i Pacific defeated Dixie State 3-1 (25-23, 23-25, 25-21, 25-15).
Sanoe Recca had 20 kills to lead all competitors.
Dixie State raced out to a 7-2 lead, but HPU countered with a 6-0 run to take the lead. The score remained tight, and was tied at 23. A kill by
Haley Doerfler and an attack error by Dixie State gave HPU the first set.
The Red Storm held a 16-11 advantage midway through the second set ,but HPU went on a 4-0 run to get close. With the score tied at 22, Dixie State took three of the next four points to tie the match at one set each.
HPU took a 17-13 lead in the third set and then held a 23-16 advantage. Dixie State would threaten with 6-1 run late, but the Sea Warriors would hold on.
HPU would leave no doubt in the fourth set, with a 12-11 lead; HPU went on a 6-0 run to take control of the set.
Doerfler had a monster game, posting 17 kills, the most in her young career. Bell racked up another double-double with 13 kills and 18 digs, as did Pihana Kea who had 54 assists and 11 digs. The 54 assists establishes a new season-high for Kea.
Kyra Pelayo had 38 digs as
Chelsey Buyuan had 18 and Recca had 16.
HPU improves to 13-8 overall and 8-4 in the PacWest, Dixie State falls to 13-8, 8-5.
HPU will return home on Monday and host Dominican at St. Andrew's Priory at 7 P.M.
