Box Score Honolulu, HI (January 10, 2011) – For the second consecutive game, the Hawai'i Pacific women's basketball team made short work of its opponent. This time it was an 81-52 victory over BYU-Hawaii. HPU is now 3-1 in PacWest play and 9-5 overall.
The game was close in the first half, featuring four lead changes and two ties. By the time halftime came, HPU led 35-31. Whatever coach
Reid Takatsuka said at halftime, worked. HPU came out of the locker room on fire. Just two and a half minutes into the second half, HPU's lead had grown to 14 at 47-33. Overall, a 19-2 run by the Sea Warriors to open the half ended all hope for BYU-H.
HPU got contributions from many sources. Mana Hopkins hit her scoring average of 17.
Paris Gravely continued her strong play with 15 points on 7-12 shooting.
Taiyande Huskey threatened to post a triple-double with 13 points, eight assists and seven steals.
Mikela Thoemmes had 11 points and a team-high six rebounds.
The game was relatively evenly played, with one large exception. HPU forced 32 turnovers from the Seasiders while only committing 13. Thus, HPU attempted 76 shots while BYU-H put up just 42.
BYU-H is now 1-10 overall and 0-3 in league play. It was led by Danna Lynn Hooper who scored 22 points.
HPU next faces Academy of Art at the Neil Blaisdell Center on Monday at 5 PM.
