Laie, HI (February 23, 2012) – Last season, the men's tennis teams at BYU-Hawaii and Hawaii Pacific were in the mix to go to the NCAA national tournament from the West Region. However, despite being on the same island, the teams never played and a committee gave HPU the nod after comparing resumes. This year, if the situation repeats, there is a clear winner. HPU dominated the Seasiders (3-3) on their own court to the tune of a 9-0 win.  

Third ranked singles player Petr Michnev overpowered his opponent in a quick 6-1, 6-1 win. At fifth singles, Gerald Moretti also had little trouble as he earned a 6-0, 6-2 victory. Patric Guenther was forced into a 10 point tiebreaker, but he prevailed 6-4, 3-6 (10-5) in the day's closest match.

By the time singles play started, HPU already had a 3-0 lead. Adriano Locorotondo and Georgi Yordanov were impressive at second doubles, winning 8-3.

HPU has started off 2012 red hot; the Sea Warriors are undefeated at 4-0 and have gone 31-1 combined this season.

HPU will next face Division I Xavier University on February 27th at University of Hawai'i Tennis Complex at 3 PM.
