Oakland, CA (January 19th, 2013)-
Melody Ladrido came off the bench to score a career-high 25 points as the Hawaii Pacific (9-3, 5-1) women's basketball team defeated Holy Names (9-7, 3-4) by the score of 100-81. The win keeps the Sea Warriors in a tie for first place in the loss column.
While the game was largely decided in the first half, it would be Holy Names taking the early lead. Down 9-6 just 3:23 in to the game the Sea Warriors responded when
Skye Savini hit a three-pointer to tie the game. The shot would spark a 24-4 run over the next 7:53 that saw Ladrido score nine points while the Sea Warrior defense held the Hawks to just two field goals. The HPU lead would grow to 24 at the half when
Ieva Nagy and Ladrido would combine for eight points in the closing minute of the first half. By the break, it was all Sea Warriors as the lead stood at 48-24.
Defensively the Sea Warriors held the PacWest's second strongest scoring attack to just 9-34 (26.5%) shooting from the field including 2-7 (28.6%) from long range. Offensively, HPU would hit 20-40 (50%) of their shots from the field including 6-15 (40%) from distance.

Alli Gentry three-pointer with 13:29 remaining in the second half. The lead would hover around 25 for the remainder of the game as both teams exchanged baskets.
“I'm really happy with our effort, but we still have a long way to go. We are just taking it one game at a time, said head coach
Reid Takatsuka.
The game would conclude with five Sea Warriors scoring in double figures as
Mikela Thoemmes scored 17,
Susannah Walmsley 15,
Heidi Anton 11 while Savini had a great all-around game going for 13 points, 12 rebounds, five steals, three blocks and three assists.
