Waipahu, HI (March 9, 2013)- The Hawai'i Pacific (14-4, 5-1) Baseball Team took a pair of victories against Holy Names (8-11, 5-7) on a rainy, delayed filled doubleheader in Waipahu.
Edward Trovato got the victory in game one for HPU, while
Doug Christie picked up the win in game two after play was suspended in the middle of the fifth.
Michael Murray took to the mound in game one and pitched his best game of the season, giving up just one earned run over seven innings while striking out 12 Hawks batters. Despite Murray leaving with the lead after the seventh HPU would find themselves tied, 4-4, going in to the bottom of the eighth.
In the bottom of the eighth speedster
Jordan Oshiro worked a one-out walk and made his way to second on a throwing error by the HNU pitcher.
Derek Nakasato would follow up by crushing a double to left-center scoring Oshiro.The late run proved to be enough as Trovato was able to set down all three HNU batters in the top of the ninth to pick up the victory.
After a brief rain delay in game one, game two would prove to be an even rainier affair.
John Albert got the start in game two for HPU, giving up just two runs on four hits, but walked five Hawks batters in three innings of work. Christie entered the game for the Sea Warriors in the fourth and set down six of the seven batters he faced while only allowing one walk.
The Sea Warriors bats came out hot in game two, scoring three runs in both the first and second innings and added two more in the fourth. By the time the sky opened and began raining in the bottom of the fifth the Sea Warriors held an 8-2 lead. After a lengthy delay it was decided the field was unplayable and the game was called after five innings.
Kale Sumner finished the day 5-9 from the plate with three runs and two RBI while Nakasato finished 4-5 from the dish with two runs, three RBI and three walks.
The Sea Warriors return to action on Wednesday to face Dixie State College at Hans L'Orange Park; first pitch is scheduled four 4:00 PM.
