Baseball Comes Up Empty in SoCal

RIVERSIDE, CA (March 25, 2013) – The Hawai'i Pacific Baseball Team (17-11, 8-8) lost both games of today's doubleheader against host California Baptist (16-8, 9-1). The Sea Warriors lost 20-5 in the opener and 7-2 in game two.

The afternoon started off well for HPU as it took a 2-0 lead. Derek Nakasato doubled with one out and was chased home on a two-run home run by Marvin Campbell.

The HPU pitching staff couldn't hold the lead as CBU scored the next 20 runs, over seven innings, to bury the Sea Warriors.
The Sea Warriors scored three times in the eighth inning on RBI from Nakasato, Campbell, and Keanu Kapana, but the game was too far out of reach.

Nakasato and Russell Doi each had three hits while Lanan Rice-Kashima added two.

The HPU pitching staff was roughed up, four Sea Warrior pitchers combined to give up 20 runs on 27 hits. Nick Woodward was the only pitcher to have a scoreless appearance.

The Lancers stayed hot and jumped on HPU early and often in game two. CBU scored two runs in each of the first three innings.

HPU got two of the runs back in the sixth inning on RBI hits from Kale Sumner and Kapana but the comeback would end there.

Jordan Oshiro and Chad Bolibol each had two hits in game two.

The two teams will play another doubleheader tomorrow at 12:00 PM PST in Riverside.
