Softball Rolling After Two Mercy Rule Wins

KANEOHE, HI (March 30, 2013)- Kristen Caskey and Alysia Maddison each picked up their second victories in as many days as the Hawai'i Pacific Softball Team (15-11, 8-8) swept BYU-Hawaii (5-31, 2-18) in a doubleheader at Howard A. Okita Field. The Sea Warriors took game one 11-3 and game two 12-4.

Caskey got the call in game one and continued to pitch well, giving up just one earned run on six hits in five innings of work. The freshman gave up just two hits through the first four innings of the game, at one point setting down 12 straight Seasider hitters.

Game one was close until the fourth when the Sea Warriors struck for nine runs on five hits capped by a Lauren Beard three-run home run. BYUH would answer with three runs in the top of the fifth, but Caskey worked out of a jam to give the Sea Warriors the eight-run mercy rule victory.

In game two, the Sea Warriors scored early and often putting up seven runs in the second inning and three runs in the third.

Shortstop Sharae Esprecion was big in game two going 3-3 at the plate with four RBI.

Maddison was strong on the mound, spreading four hits over four innings before Amanda Wisdom entered the game to close out the fifth inning.

Chante Tesoro had a monster day at the plate going 4-5 with five runs scored and two RBI. The senior leadoff batter also drew four walks on the day and sits atop the PacWest in batting average and on-base percentage.

The Sea Warriors will now hit the road for a 10 game road trip beginning with Dominican University in San Rafael, CA on April 2nd at 12:00 PM PST.
