Box Score SAN DIEGO, CA (February 13, 2014)—The Hawai`i Pacific Women's Basketball Team (14-7, 10-5) dropped the first game of its mainland road trip 81-78 to Point Loma (13-9, 10-7) in San Diego Thursday night.
The Sea Warriors trailed early but fought their way back to take an 11-10 lead on a
Loren Gurrola three-pointer. HPU's lead grew to as big as seven with 4:55 to play in the first session before the Sea Lions closed the half on an 18-6 run to take a 40-35 lead at the break.
HPU tied the score at 53 on a
Shianne Solomon three-pointer with 13:21 to play and eventually took a two-point lead off a
Morganne Comstock jumper with just over 10 minutes remaining.
Senior
Skye Savini hit a pair of free throws to give HPU a three-point lead with 5:08 to play, but again the Sea Lions answered, this time with a 10-0 run to retake the lead.
In the final minute, the Sea Warriors were able to cut the deficit to one before Point Loma hit one of two free throws. With the clock winding down and trailing by two, HPU elected to go for the win, but a three-pointer with eight seconds to play was just off the mark.
Savini  finished with a team-high 22 points while Comstock registered another double-double with 12 points and 17 boards. Solomon added 18 points in the losing effort.
 The Sea Warriors now head north to face Azusa Pacific in Azusa, CA on Saturday.Â
