Cold Shooting Costs Women’s Basketball

Box Score RIVERSIDE, CA (February 17, 2014)—The Hawai`i Pacific Women's Basketball Team (14-9, 10-7) dropped the third game of its road trip 74-60 against California Baptist (14-10, 12-6) on Monday night. The Sea Warriors fall to fourth place in the Pacific West Conference while the Lancers move up to third.

Things looked good for the Sea Warriors early as they took a five-point lead on a Loren Gurrola three-pointer with 11:38 to play in the first half. The Lancers answered to take a six-point lead of their own with 2:45 to play in the half, but the Sea Warriors closed on a 5-0 run and only trailed by one point at the break.

The game remained close in the second half with the Lancers only leading by three points with 12 minutes remaining in the game. HPU's scoring woes returned however, as they would only score 14 points over the finals 10 minutes while the Lancers built a commanding double-digit lead. The Sea Warriors held CBU scoreless over the final 2:45, but the damage had already been done leading to a 74-60 final score.

HPU center Morganne Comstock led the way with 12 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Ieva Nagy (12) and Shianne Solomon (11) were the other Sea Warriors scoring in double-figures.
HPU out-rebounded the Lancers 57-39, but suffered from 22 turnovers.

With their last regular season trip to the mainland out of the way, the Sea Warriors will return to Hawai`i for its last three games of the season. First up is Notre Dame de Namur on February 22nd. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. at Moanalua High School.
