Box Score 2 AZUSA, CA (February 18, 2014)— The Hawai`i Pacific Softball Team (1-3, 1-3) lost both games of todays doubleheader against Azusa Pacific (12-3, 3-1). The Sea Warriors dropped game one 8-3 and fell in the nightcap 10-9.
For the second day in a row the Cougars jumped out to an early lead in the first inning of game one. APU scored six runs off six hits to put HPU in a hole.
The Sea Warriors responded with two runs in the top of the second off an RBI groundout by
Chelsea Cramer and an RBI single by Nicole Vienna to cut the deficit to 6-2.
HPU added another run on a
Dorian Acierto double in the fifth, but APU runs in the third and sixth innings gave the Cougars a comfortable lead and an 8-3 victory in game one.
Also like the night before, the Sea Warriors got on the board first in game two. Junior Kelia Elderts slapped a single through the left side and eventually scored from first on
Kayla Sanchez' double.
The Sea Warriors took a 4-0 lead in the top of the second on a
Sharae Esprecion three-run home run, but the Cougars answered with three runs in the bottom half to cut the lead to 4-3.
After scoring an unearned run in the top of the fifth, the Sea Warriors fell behind when the Cougars exploded for a four-run burst in the bottom half of the inning. HPU took a 9-8 lead in the top half of the sixth inning with a four-run output of its own, capped by Esprecion's fourth RBI of the game.
The one-run lead held until the bottom of seventh when the Cougars opened the inning with a solo home run to tie the game. Three batters later APU would find pay dirt again, knocking in the game-winning run for a walk-off victory.
Esprecion led the way with four RBI on Tuesday night while
Toni Baysa continues to be a run generator after crossing the plate three more times.
With the four-game set with Azusa complete, the Sea Warriors will now head to Riverside, Ca to face California Baptist in a four-game series. The first doubleheader is set for 5:00 p.m. PST on February 20
th.
