Softball Back on Track, Sweep Seasiders

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LAIE, HI (March 1, 2014)- The Hawai`i Pacific Softball Team (3-9, 3-9) picked up a pair of victories against BYU Hawaii (0-7,0-5) on the North Shore. The Sea Warriors won game one 11-0 in a five inning mercy rule and followed with a 4-0 win in game two.
 
HPU jumped out to an early lead with multiple runs in each of the first three innings.
 
Dorian Acierto hit an RBI triple in the first inning and Nicole Vienna hit a triple and scored in the second inning. By the time Sharae Esprecion hit a sacrifice fly in the third, the Sea Warriors enjoyed a 10-0 lead.
 
HPU scored one more run in the fifth while Chandell Dacosin allowed just three base runners for the complete game shutout.
 
The Sea Warriors got off to a good start in game two, scoring a trio of runs in the second inning.
 
Dacosin started the inning by reaching second base on a throwing error. Chelsea Cramer walked and as Dacosin moved to third on the ball-four wild pitch. Nicole Vienna loaded the bases with a walk. Esprecion brought home one run on a fielder's choice before Keila Elderts knocked in a pair of runs with a single up the middle.
 
The Seasiders threatened in the bottom fifth getting a runner to second, but Elderts made a run-saving diving catch in center to preserve the 3-0 lead.
 
The Sea Warriors scored a run on a wild pitch in seventh which proved to be more than enough for HPU starter Kristen Caskey who picked up the complete game shutout victory.  The sophomore allowed just two hits and one walk while striking out three.
 
Esprecion finished the day going 3-7 with four RBI and two runs scored. Elderts was solid as well going 4-8 with two runs and two RBI.
 
The double header was originally scheduled to be played at Howard A. Okita Field, but was moved Laie due to the weather.  The pair of victories marks the 58th and 59th victories in a row the Sea Warriors have beat BYU Hawaii.
 
The Sea Warriors turn around and play another doubleheader on Sunday against Spokane Falls at Howard A. Okita field. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
