Box Score 2 KANEOHE, HI (April 24, 2014) – The Hawai'i Pacific Softball Team (19-22, 17-13) used great starting pitching to sweep both ends of the doubleheader against BYU-Hawaii (10-26, 6-24) on Thursday afternoon. The Sea Warriors took game one 2-0 and then cruised to a 6-0 win in game two.
Game one was an old fashioned pitcher's duel, through four innings each team just had one hit apiece
.
In the bottom of the fifth, HPU got back-to-back singles from
Charisse Tanabe and
Nicole Viena to put runners on the corners with one out.
Chelsea Cramer then delivered the game-winning run on a sacrifice fly to center field. HPU added another run in the sixth inning when
Kristen Caskey singled home
Keila Elderts.
Two runs was more than enough for
Chandell Dacosin (10-6) who gave up just one hit and one walk in seven innings of work.
The Sea Warrior bats stayed hot to start game two. A single by Elderts and two walks loaded the bases,
Dorian Acierto then unloaded them with a grand slam home run to left center field. Dacosin and Tanabe each added RBI in the second and third innings to give HPU a commanding 6-0 advantage.
Caskey (9-15) would make it stand up as she pitched seven shutout innings, scattering five hits while not walking a batter.
Acierto led HPU offensively with the home run and a double, Cramer also had a multi-hit game in game two.
HPU will close the season and celebrate senior day on Saturday at noon at Howard A. Okita Field with a doubleheader against UH Hilo.
