Box Score 2 KANEOHE, HI (April 26, 2014) – The Hawai'i Pacific Softball Team (21-22, 19-13) looked as good as it has all season in a doubleheader sweep of visiting UH Hilo (20-20, 13-14). HPU took the opener 4-1 and then romped to a 15-3 win in game two before celebrating its seniors.
Senior
Chandell Dacosin (11-6) was again fantastic on the mound scattering five hits and just one run over seven inning to earn the win.
HPU broke through offensively in the third inning.
Nicole Viena opened with a single and was sacrificed to second on a bunt before
Keila Elderts singled her home. Dacosin then helped her own cause with a double that scored Elderts.
Kayla Sanchez then followed with a single to drive in Dacosin and make it 3-0.
The Sea Warriors tacked on another run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly from
Kristen Caskey to give HPU a commanding 4-0 lead.
Game two started on a down note as Hilo put three runs on the board in the top of the first inning.
Undeterred, HPU responded with eight runs of its own in the bottom of the frame. The big blows came from
Dorian Acierto and
Chelsea Cramer who each had bases loaded doubles, driving in five runs.
In the third inning the Sea Warriors turned the game into a complete laugher by adding seven more runs. The inning was highlighted by a three-run double by Caskey and a three-run homer senior
Charisse Tanabe.
Caskey (10-15) held down the Vulcans to force the mercy rule and earn the complete game win.
HPU closes the season on a five-game winning streak and in fourth place in the PacWest Conference.
