Baseball Wins Slugfest, Splits Doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WAIPAHU, HI (February 14, 2015) – The Hawai'i Pacific Baseball Team was hot and cold in a doubleheader split against Northwest Nazarene. The offense was sizzling in game one to the tune of 15 runs but then couldn't score in game two. HPU took the opener 15-7 and dropped the nightcap 6-0.

The HPU offense announced its presence when it scored five runs in the third inning of game one. The big blows were RBI doubles from Chad Bolibol and James Carraway. Ryan Torres-Torioka came up clutch with a two-out two-RBI single.

In the very next half inning, NNU struck back for four runs to make it a game again at 5-4.

HPU added on two runs in the sixth when Codey Ellenwood knocked in two with a double. Ellenwood showed tremendous heart by staying in the game after taking a line drive off the face or throat area.

The Sharks put the game out of reach in the bottom of the seventh with four more runs. Bolibol doubled with the bases loaded to score three runs and give himself four RBI for the day.

Tyler Tokunaga, Nolan Barraza, Bolibol, and Steven Camberos each had two hits. Barraza drove in four runs as Derek Nakasato scored four times.

Starting pitcher Brandon Van Stone earned his first win a Shark.

In game two, the HPU bats went silent. NNU starter Jake Reppert pitched a shutout, although HPU had chances.  HPU had five hits and worked four walks in the seven innings game but couldn't get the big hit.

The Crusaders scored one run in the second inning, two in the fifth, and three in the sixth to earn the 6-0 win.

Jordan Oshiro had two hits and another stolen base. Sean Collins was a bright spot in relief allowing just one hit over an inning and two-thirds.

The two teams will close the series on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 2:00 pm at Hans L'Orange Park.
