Box Score 2 WAIPAHU, HI (March 14, 2015) – The Hawai'i Pacific Baseball Team (11-4, 8-2) dropped two in a PacWest doubleheader against a tough Dixie State (11-7, 6-0) team. The Red Storm won game one 5-2 and then game two 7-5.
In game one of the doubleheader, HPU struck first when
Derek Nakasato doubled down the left field line to score leadoff hitter
Jordan Oshiro. The Sharks once again scored in the third when Oshiro doubled down the left field line to score
Ryan Torres-Torioka.
In the fourth however, Dixie State put up three runs in the inning aided by HPU's defense.
The next inning the Red Storm pushed one more across on a deep triple to right center field.
In the seventh, it was another triple that hurt the Sharks, which pushed the score to 5-2. This was the final tally of the game, but Dixie State held the Sharks offense where it stood.
Rico Garcia (3-1) got his first loss of the year on a hard luck outing in which he gave up five runs, only two were earned. Meanwhile he struck out nine while walking none in his seven and one-third innings of work.
In game two it was the offenses that made the game exciting.
The Red Storm jumped out to a quick one run lead in the first. The Sharks answered back in the bottom of the inning and put up a three on the scoreboard when
Nolan Barraza,
Codey Ellenwood and
James Carraway all drove in runs.
In the fourth inning, Dixie evened up the score at three. Then to lead off the bottom of the inning Carraway tripled and then scored on an
Ian Arciaga sacrifice fly to center.
The fifth inning saw the Sharks push one more across on a Barraza RBI double.
Later in the seventh, Dixie pushed across another two runs and once again tie the game up, this time at five a piece.
The game went to extra frames and supplied bonus baseball to the fans, as nine innings was not produce a winner. In the tenth inning however, Dixie struck for two runs and once again claim the game.
Cody Ells (0-1) got the loss for game two after throwing three innings in of relief of starter
Nick Camarena.
The Sharks look to even up the series on Sunday (March 15) against Dixie with a second double-header at Hans L'Orange Park. Game one's first pitch is scheduled for 12:00 pm, with game two scheduled to start at 3:30 pm.
