IRVINE, Calif. –Hawai'i Pacific University doubled up on PacWest Conference Women's Soccer weekly awards as
Ebony Madrid was named PacWest Player of the Week and
Kaylee Sumida was selected Freshman of the Week on Monday by the conference office.
Madrid, a senior from Porterville, Calif./Ramstein (Germany), scored her second hat trick of the season and third of her career with all three goals in the Sharks 3-1 victory over Fresno Pacific last Wednesday at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium. It was HPU's only contest of the week. Madrid collected her 11th, 12th and 13th goals of the season, to establish a new high in goals for a season since 2007.
Madrid leads the PacWest in goals scored and goals per game (1.30), as well as total points (29) and points per game (2.90). She is seventh nationally in goals per game and sixth in points per game.
Sumida, a freshman defender/midfielder from Honolulu/Moanalua, chalked up an assist for the first goal of the game against Fresno Pacific while playing all 90 minutes against the Sunbirds. It was her first assist of the season. She attempted three shots, one on goal, as well as helped HPU hold FPU to just six total shots against the Sharks in the contest.
Joining the HPU duo with weekly honors is Dominican (Calif.) goalkeeper Alyssa Ramos who recorded shutouts in a pair of scoreless draws last week.
The Sharks face Dominican on Monday evening at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium in a 4:30 p.m. contest. Then on Saturday, HPU visits the mainland for a four-game southern California swing starting with Azusa Pacific in a 10 a.m. HST (1 p.m. PDT) contest.
