IRVINE, Calif. –Hawai'i Pacific University collected a pair of PacWest Conference Women's Soccer weekly awards as
Ebony Madrid was named PacWest Player of the Week and
Kayli Ann Yoshioka was selected Freshman of the Week on Monday by the conference office.
Madrid, a senior from Porterville, Calif./Ramstein (Germany), scored twice and added three assists on the Sharks eight goals netted last week. The Sharks defeated Central Washington 3-2 and Saint Martin's 5-0, but lost 1-0 to Western Oregon in non-conference play in the Pacific Northwest last week.
Madrid scored the first two goals against CWU and assisted on game-winning third goal. Then against Saint Martin's, Madrid had helpers on two of the five goals in the contest. Madrid is second in the PacWest with 15 points, is tied second in the league with three goals and leads the conference with three assists.
Yoshioka, a freshman from Honolulu/Kaiser, scored all three of her season goals last week, including the game winners against Central Washington and Saint Martin's. Her goal in the 84th minute broke a 2-2 tie to defeat CWU 3-2, and her penalty kick in the eighth minute against the Saints was started the 5-0 shutout.
Yoshioka is tied for fourth in the PacWest with six points (1.5 per game) and is tied for second in the conference with three goals.
Joining the HPU duo with weekly honors is Dominican (Calif.) goal keeper Alyssa Ramos who recorded two shutouts.
The Sharks play twice this week in designated non-conference matches against island teams. On Thursday the Sharks host Chaminade in a match moved to 12:30 p.m. at Waipio Field 5. HPU travels to Hawai'i Hilo on Saturday in a match slated for 12:30 p.m. on the UH Hilo campus.
