Sharks Place Six On All-PacWest Women's Soccer Team

IRVINE, Calif. – The Hawai'i Pacific University women's soccer team placed six players on the All-PacWest Conference Team announced Wednesday by the conference office.

With the conference season played by pods this spring, each pod (Hawai'i, Southern California and Northern California) selected a team with the special awards selected by the entire conference.

Representing the Sharks on the All-PacWest Hawai'i Team are forward Jacey Iwane, midfielders Brittny Ihara and Kayli Ann Yoshioka, defenders Hunter Malaki and Kaylee Sumida, and goalkeeper Madi DePhillips.

The Sharks, who finished the pandemic shortened and moved spring season at 0-3-1, had six of the 13 players selected to the All-PacWest Hawai'i team.

Ihara, a 4-11 junior midfielder from Pearl City, Hawai'i/Pearl City, led HPU in scoring this spring, totaling three points on one goal and one assist.

Iwane, a 5-1 junior forward from Aiea, Hawai'i/Moanalua, scored a goal and totaled two points upfront for the Sharks.

Yoshioka, a 5-1 sophomore midfielder from Honolulu/Kaiser, was tied with Iwane for second on the squad with a goal and two points.

Malaki, a 5-3 junior defender from Pearl City, Hawai 'i/Pearl City and Sumida, a 5-3 sophomore defender from Honolulu/Moanalua, led the HPU defense that did not allow more than two goals in a contest.

DePhillips, a 5-7 freshman goalkeeper from Tacoma, Wash./Bellarmine Prep, was the top keeper for the Sharks this spring. She recorded a combined shutout (injured in the last minute of a 0-0 contest with Hawai'i Hilo) and recorded 11 saves against 27 shots on the season.

The 2020-21 PacWest Women's Soccer Awards were announced with the team, with the Chaminade trio of Randi Fontes as the PacWest Player of the Year, Hoku Schatz as Newcomer of the Year and Coach Michelle Richardson the PacWest Coach of the Year.  Point Loma's Lauren O'Malley was selected PacWest Defender of the Year and Emma Hinson the Goalkeeper of the Year.
