Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Growth, grit, and fight from this group. On to the next

HONOLULU, Hawai'i – Hawai'i Pacific University women's basketball battled throughout four quarters but came up short in a 69–63 loss to Hawai'i Hilo on Saturday afternoon.

The Sharks (3–4, 2–1 PacWest) trailed by nine after the opening quarter before steadily cutting into the deficit, outscoring the Vulcans in both the third and fourth quarters. HPU pulled within six late but was unable to overcome Hilo's advantage at the free-throw line.

Alana Roberts led all Sharks with 15 points, shooting 5-of-6 from the field while adding seven rebounds. Jalen Samuel provided a spark off the bench with 10 points on efficient shooting, while Serenity Santos knocked down all three of her three-point attempts to finish with nine points in nine minutes.

HPU shot 41.5 percent from the field and 34.8 percent from three, highlighted by a strong second-half performance where the Sharks connected on 13 of their 25 field-goal attempts. The Sharks also received 25 bench points, outscoring Hilo's reserves.

Despite the offensive efficiency, Hawai'i Hilo capitalized at the foul line, converting 20-of-28 free throws, and held a rebounding advantage, particularly on second-chance opportunities.
