Sharks Dominate 'Swords with Massive Fourth Quarter

HONOLULU — Hawaii Pacific used a dominant fourth-quarter surge and a balanced scoring effort to pull away from Chaminade 62–45 on Tuesday evening at the Shark Tank, opening PacWest play with a convincing win.

Kyra Tanabe led the Sharks (2–3, 1–0 PacWest) with 16 points, adding six steals while shooting 6 of 11 from the field. Jalen Samuel provided a major spark off the bench with nine points, four steals, and a perfect 2-for-2 mark at the free-throw line.

HPU held a narrow 45–41 lead entering the fourth quarter before outscoring the Silverswords 17–4 the rest of the way. The Sharks forced 26 turnovers—turning them into 24 points—and recorded 19 steals, setting the tone defensively throughout the night.

Alana Roberts added eight points and seven rebounds, while Mya Hatchett finished with nine points, five rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Lucia Ricci also scored eight, collecting four steals of her own.

Chaminade (0–5, 0–1) was paced by Alyssa Schuetze's 13 points and nine rebounds, while Selena Buttery added eight points. The Silverswords shot 32.6% from the field and just 2 of 12 from beyond the arc.

HPU controlled the paint with a 28–22 scoring edge inside and matched the Silverswords with 14 bench points. The Sharks' biggest lead—21 points—came late in the fourth quarter as their defensive pressure overwhelmed Chaminade down the stretch.

Hawaii Pacific returns to action later this week, on Thursday at 5 pm at Hawai'i-Hilo, continuing early PacWest play.
